Mastering the Wake: Power, Torque, and Total Freedom
If the eFoil is the glider of the ocean, the eSurf is the high-performance sports car. For those who love the traditional feel of a surfboard but hate waiting for the perfect swell, the eSurf (Electric Surfboard) is the ultimate answer. It’s built for one thing: speed.
By swapping the hydrofoil wing for a high-output jet drive, eSurfing brings the physical "snap" of a turn and the adrenaline of high-speed planing to any body of water—no waves required.
🚀 The Tech: Jet Propulsion Explained
The eSurf is a masterpiece of compact engineering. To achieve speeds of up to 35 mph (56 km/h) on flat water, it relies on a specific set of hardware:
The Planing Hull: Unlike traditional boards, eSurf hulls are designed to "plane" or skim across the surface. This minimises displacement and allows the board to skip over the water with minimal resistance.
The Electric Jet Drive: An internal impeller sucks in water and expels it at high velocity through a nozzle at the rear. This creates immediate torque, giving you that "kick" the moment you pull the trigger.
Plug-and-Play Power: Modern boards use high-density lithium-ion batteries that are swappable, allowing for back-to-back sessions without waiting hours at a charger.
🌊 The Experience: The Art of the Carve
What makes eSurfing so addictive is the physicality. Because you are in constant contact with the water’s surface, the feedback is instant.
Grip and Rip: You can lean into aggressive, deep-rail carves that would be impossible on a standard surfboard without a massive wave behind you.
Agility and Jumps: Without a long mast underneath, the board is incredibly nimble. Advanced riders can use the immediate torque to launch off wakes or perform sharp 180-degree spins.
The Full-Body Workout: Make no mistake—eSurfing is a sport. Managing the torque and stabilising the board at high speeds engages your quads, glutes, and core like nothing else.
✨ Why Every Water Sports Enthusiast Needs a Go
At Beyond the Shore, we see the eSurf as the great equaliser. It turns a boring, flat lake into a world-class surf break. It’s silent, eco-friendly, and offers a level of freedom that used to be reserved for professional jet skiers.

🛠️ Pro Tip: Finding the "Step"
The biggest hurdle for beginners is getting the board from a "plowing" state to a "planing" state.
Commit to the Throttle: If you apply power too slowly, the tail will sink. Give it a confident burst of speed to get the board level.
Weight Distribution: Keep your weight centred as you rise from your knees. Once the board is skimming, shift your weight slightly to your back foot to keep the nose from "pearling" (diving) into the chop.
